Letter to MAPAQ

Yvon Vallières,
Minister
Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation

Dear Minister,
Subject : MAPAQ Website

I am writing on behalf of the members of the Quebec Farmers’ Association (QFA) to register our continued disappointment with the lack of English-language content on the MAPAQ website.

As you may know, the QFA: provides information and educational opportunities to the Quebec English-speaking rural community
provides a link between English-speaking farm families and their communities represents their views to government and other organizations promotes projects that assist in economic development, and works to ensure a "comfort level" for English-speaking people living in rural Quebec and a continued sense of pride in these communities.

It was with fanfare that your ministry announced the launch of its redesigned website. Unfortunately, your officials continue to overlook the fact that there are more than 2,100 English-speaking agricultural producers in Quebec, and that we too, need access to relevant information on a timely basis. Over the years, the MAPAQ website has been a source of frustration for English-speaking producers.

Quebec’s English-speaking farmers need access to pertinent and relevant information in order to stay abreast with developments, programs, and services. Anglophones outside Quebec also desire to learn about developments taking place in our province. Please ask your officials to expand the quantity of English materials contained on the MAPAQ website.

Yours truly,

Gib Drury
President
