What does Quebec’s English-speaking agricultural community look like? Here’s a few statistics!
According to Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) statistics tabulated in the summer of 2005, there were:
- 2,105 English-speaking farmers in Quebec farming 1,604 farms. They represent 5% of the overall members of the UPA.
BY REGION:
- 31% of these farmers (658 farmers) live and farm in the Outaouais-Laurentides region, 29% (619 farmers) can be found in the St-Jean-Valleyfield region, and 24% (384 farmers) are in the Eastern Townships (Estrie Region).
BY PRODUCTION:
- 42% of these producers are registered as beef farmers, 13% as cash crop producers, and 12% as dairy producers.
- In 2006, as of mid-March, 37% of this year’s QFA members are beef producers, 24% are dairy producers and 8% are cash crop producers.
